2025 Year End Review

Accomplishments:

Completion of the USDA Rural Business Development Grant:

  • Total Funding of $204,965.00

    • 105 acres fenced with 4 strands barbed wire, with smooth wire on top

    • Automated solar gate system with cattle guard, expanded width of entrance

    • Expansion of the main road with an additional base and bar ditch and culverts

    • Cattle Guard at entry of NMPMA facility with overhead gate (Texas Gate) at driveway

    • Gates installed on east side, and south corner, with additional pipe fencing for security around the underground storage tanks and well system

    • Improvements to water system, placement of troughs and spickets


2nd Annual High Altitude Bull Sale

  • Ten producers from New Mexico, Arizona and Texas brought registered cattle, providing high quality genetics 

  • Over 50 bulls sold with the addition open heifers

  • Value-added genetics to our local ranchers and an opportunity to create a marketplace in northern New Mexico


  • Livestock Marketing Opportunities continued with monthly cattle buying by Eugene Johnson and Sons


Future Plans

Recently awarded: Ag Water Resilience WRRI Grant Program $152,861.00 which would allow for further upgrades and modifications to the water distribution system

  • Upgrades waterers with cement base and insulation

  • Install water shut off valves to individual pens

  • Review pipeline to the water troughs

  • Improve water distribution with spicket/faucets

  • Expand water system to pasture and adjacent pasture

Pending: A grant opportunity with the NM Economic Development Department

  • Remodeling of the Scale House with updated flooring, bathroom facilities, meeting room, insulate for better heating and cooling capabilities

  • Enclosure of Barn for hosting events

Winter Grazing Program

  • January 24th, 2026, until April 25th with 5 total members and 3 new NMPMA members totaling 70 head of cattle


Trich and Fertility Testing Event for Local Producers

  • Feb 7, 2026, Bull Management Program in conjunction with Rio Arriba Cooperative Extension Service with a second opportunity on May 2, 2026

  • PAP testing is an option available to local producers


3rd Annual Bull Sale

  • Saturday March 21, 2026 Mark Your Calendars

  • Receiving bull sale cattle and heifers February 21st for processing and begin feeding program

    • PAP testing and health monitoring

    • Trich and Fertility tested
