The NMPMA Facility

The NMPMA facility is located across from Abiquiu lake in beautiful Rio Arriba county. The facility offers 100 acres of pasture, several pens, scales, and a handling barn and chute for members to use.

Marketing Opportunities

The NMPMA Board of Directors strives to continue work toward updating this facility and encouraging use for New Mexico producers to see the benefits of their hard work in livestock. For the 2025 Fall opportunities we have some weekend dates available. See the contact information listed above.

Bull Wintering Program

Bull feeding program with Miguel Salazar start date is client dependent and owners should contact Miguel for exact time to begin feeding the bulls for the winter.

Heifer Development Program

  • Feeding program costs; $200 per head/month

  • Heifers tested for BVDV, Pulmonary Artery tested and Pelvic Diameter for prediction of calving ease

AI Heifer Breeding On-site

Heifers can be delivered to facility on April 10th

  • Feed Cost is $8/day

    • Estimated time is 2 weeks for breeding program

  • Includes synchronization and A.I. and early detection pregnancy if requested

    • Costs will depend on the protocol utilized

Winter Grazing In Conjunction With Ghost Ranch

NMPMA will be offering the annual winter grazing program to all active members of the NMPMA. Producers are selected on a lottery basis and the number of head each producer is allowed to graze will depend on number of producers participating. We will begin to accept applications August 10 th 2025- Nov 1 st 2025

If the number exceeds 75 head then Producers who have submitted their application will be randomly selected.

The grazing program will begin the weekend of Jan 24th 2026 and extends until April 25th /26th 2026. All cattle cannot enter until the designated time and must be removed by the ending date.

The following is required of cattle entering the facility:

-Bred cows only

-Preg check available

-Proof current vaccine and deworming

-Viral and clostridial

-Polled or scurred cows preferred

Mineral Supplements and protein tubs will be provided

Water costs are on a per head basis at $5/hd/day

In order to maintain the health of the rangeland, the grazing season dates are subject to change

Annual Bull Sale

The next Annual Bull Sale will be held March 21, 2026.

All bulls in the sale must be delivered to the NMPMA facility by Feb 28th 2026

All sale bulls will be:

  • Vaccinated against clostridial and viral diseases (if not already vaccinated by producer)

  • Tested for BVDV

  • Dewormed (if not already done by producer)

  • Initial weights at drop off

Daily feed cost for each bull:

  • >12mo - $10/day

  • <12mo - $9/day

Limit 20 bulls per producer. Bulls much reach a minimum of 950lbs before sale date to participate in the auction

New Opportunity for 2026 Sale

Auction cows 2-5 years old, confirmed pregnant or with calf

  • Need to be delivered to facility the evening before or the morning of sale (by 9am)

  • Sold in lots (minimum to purchase)
